We woke up too early for vacation and went downstairs for breakfast. Helio, our Rio guide, picked us up and took us to the airport. We noticed we were driving on the wrong side of the street. I thought maybe directions changed in the morning, but there weren't any cars anywhere going in the other direction. Turns out, on Sundays they close a whole side of the street for families and people to run/walk/and do whatever else near the beach. cool!
Helio dropped us off at the airport, and our adventure to Iguaçu began! Here's our plane.
We were picked up in Iguaçu by our new guide, Moreno. He didn't speak English, so the first part of our trip was pretty confusing to me. We picked up another couple-they were hungry-so we went to a churrascuria. It was a weird place-very loud and open. We had really wanted to get dropped off somewhere to do something with our day-but soon realized (as we drove to our hotel) that there was nothing to do. Nowhere to walk, nowhere to eat, nowhere to shop. Basically, we got dropped off at our hotel and that was it. We walked around our hotel, which was also a golf course. It appeared totally deserted-and it was FREEZING! That was the hardest part for me-we had just left the beautiful, warm beaches of Rio-which we couldn't even enjoy, and we were stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do and not enough warm clothes. We made the best of it by curling up in our room and watching 24 until dinner time. Dinner wasn't anything special, but at least there were other people there.
The only place open after dinner was the "lounge" so we played cards and ordered our free "welcome" drinks.
